Mr. Beck’s passion for clinical practice and clinical education stems from the values and beliefs developed from his personal, professional, and educational experiences. He grew up in an environment where individual rights were violated and education was only accessible to a dominant political party. He has experienced all forms of discrimination and barriers to a better life. Nonetheless, he managed to obtain 2 bachelors and 3 masters degrees and made a good life for him and his family. Thus, Mr. Beck is a valuable asset to Felbry College School of Nursing as he has not only the life experience to motivate students but also an extensive professional experience in educating and running nursing programs. At Mount Carmel College of Nursing, he consistently achieved greater than 95% retention and NCLEX first time pass rates for 7 consecutive years in the Second Degree Accelerated Program where students obtained their BSN over the course of 13 months. He has taught courses such as Foundations of Health Assessment, Foundations of Caring Health Practices, Medical/Surgical Nursing, Community Health, Health Promotion, Critical Care, and Caring Practices in Transition to the Professional Role. In addition, he is also experienced in developing and teaching courses such as Customer Comfort in Nursing and Leadership Seminar in Nursing.
In Academia, he was a highly successful and influential mentor to both students and faculty. He participated in Recruitment and Admission Committee for both the undergraduate and the Second Degree Accelerated Program, Multicultural Diversity Committee, Scholarship Selection Committee, NCLEX Ad Hoc Committee (Chairperson & Secretary), Faculty Executive Committee, Robert Wood Johnson Scholarship Committee (Chairperson & Secretary). He engaged in developing policy, managing teams, and strategic planning of nursing curriculums. He participated in community services locally and internationally.
Along with his extensive experience in academia, he has over 15 years of experience working at clinics and/or hospitals throughout central Columbus, Ohio. His ongoing clinical experience in family practice and specialties in benign and malignant hematology benefit our students and faculty. He is committed to excellent patient care and outcomes. He continues to mentor nursing students and newly hired graduates where he currently practice. He actively participates in various quality and research committees; thus, he utilizes best practices in teaching and caring for his patients. As a result, he expects all faculty at Felbry College of Nursing to teach using evidence-based teaching strategies and clinical practice.
Mr. Beck is highly educated. He received a Bachelor of Science from Tucson Arizona, a Master of Health Administration from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing Education, and Family Nurse Practitioner from Mount Carmel College of Nursing.
